Airports are getting busier, highways are filling up, and many of us are preparing for summer vacations, family visits, weekend getaways, and long-awaited adventures. Whether you are flying overseas, taking a cruise, or planning a summer road trip closer to home, now is the perfect time to get organized and travel smarter. As many of you know, I used to be a chronic overpacker. Through plenty of trial and error (and a few heavy suitcases!), I have learned that traveling lighter and planning ahead makes every trip easier - especially during busy summer travel season. This month, we wanted to share a few practical reminders and travel tips to help you prepare for smoother summer travels. 5 Things To Do Before Your Summer Trip 1, Check Your Passport Expiration Date Many international destinations require at least 6 months of validity remaining on your passport. Don’t let an expired passport ruin your plans. 2. Prepare Your Car for Summer Road Trips Many travelers are staying closer to home this summer and choosing road trips instead of flying. Even with higher gas prices, traveling by car gives you flexibility, comfort, and the freedom to pack everything you need. Before heading out on the road, take a few minutes to make sure your vehicle is ready for summer travel. A few things to check before your trip:
Road trips can be some of the most memorable vacations because they allow you to explore smaller towns, scenic routes, hidden beaches, and spontaneous stops along the way. And unlike airline travel, there is no pressure to fit everything into a carry-on! 3. Consider TSA PreCheck Summer airport lines can be long and stressful. TSA PreCheck has made a huge difference for me, especially during peak travel periods. It can save significant time at security and make the airport experience much more enjoyable. 4. Don’t Forget an International Driving Permit If you plan to rent a car internationally - especially in countries like Italy - you may need an International Driving Permit in addition to your U.S. driver’s license. This is one of those small travel details that many travelers overlook until they are standing at the rental counter! 5. Practice Packing Light One of the best travel decisions I ever made was learning how to travel with only a carry-on and personal item.
